Health journalists from all over Europe are invited to apply for one of the 12 fellowships to attend the European Cancer Congress ECCO2017, which will be held in Amsterdam from 27-30 January 2017, with the theme “From evidence to practice in multidisciplinary cancer care”.
The Reporting on Cancer fellowships are offered by the European School of Oncology (ESO) in collaboration with the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO) to offer selected writers and editors an opportunity to meet some of the leading thinkers and clinicians in cancer treatment and care across Europe, to make contacts, hone skills and gather some great story ideas.
The multidisciplinary congress – bringing together doctors, nurses, psychologists, patient advocates, policy makers and industry – will address a number of important issues for the future of cancer care in Europe. The main focus will be a critical evaluation of new and recently presented clinical research data, and whether it will change clinical practice. It will look in particular at the evidence from Phase III trials and review clinical benefits and costs. There will be a focus on immunotherapy and personalised medicine.
The congress will also look at policy issues, evolving health care systems and disparities in cancer care.
The selected fellows will have travel and accomodation costs covered, and free access to the congress and to a series of meetings especially designed for the media.
Applications are open to:
- Early and mid-career journalists, freelance or staff, covering health stories in print/broadcast/online mass media, who would not normally have the chance to attend the ECCO congress
- From any country within the WHO Europe region
- A commitment to reporting on how cancer is best treated, how care is organised, the impact on patients and families, and the health and societal impact of the disease.
Deadline for applications is 11 November 2016.
